Let's Keep our Children Healthy!

This posts goes to all the amazing parents out there! Since the start of COVID-19 our kids are living in lockdowns, social restrictions, had school and playground closures. Our children feel isolated, in psychological distress and they struggle with boredom. Our kids are home, snacking and getting little to no exercise. This might lead to weight gain, which is something that worries you right? Because what’s more important to you more than their health!

A very importance point is that:  the aim is to help our children decrease the rate of weight gain and allow for normal growth and development. Children should NOT be placed on a weight reduction diet.

Well we are here to help you. We will provide you with evidence based tips and strategy to help your kids stay HEALTHY! We will focus on developing healthy eating habits, limit calorie-dense temptations, help children stay active and of course have a goodnight sleep.

  • Get the kids in the kitchen, this will help them build healthy eating habits. In fact, this will get them interested, they actually enjoy eating food that they cooked or helped in cooking. And this will give you the opportunity to explain to them the importance of eating healthy and benefit of some food items. So let them help and let them be creative. This can be as simple as washing the fruits and vegetables to mashing the bananas or mix the ingredients.
  • Provide them with healthy options! Give them fruit for desserts or snacks, use fat-free dairy products and creams. Provide them with whole grain bread, and breakfast cereals. Cook with lean meat (chicken, fish) rather than fatty beef cuts. And finally try to stop eating 3 hours before bedtime.
  • Try to get them moving. Even if you are staying at home, dance with them, ask them to help you with house chores such as vacuuming, and try to have a walk around the house in the afternoon.
  • And don’t forget that sleep is really important. Lack of sleep or too little sleep has been related to gain weight. Let them go to bed and wake up at the same time each day.

You should always keep in mind that you are their role model, therefore you need to set a good example!
