Benefits of Tuna

The United Nations established World Tuna Day on the 2nd of May to raise awareness about the importance of tuna and to promote more sustainable fishing practices.

Tuna Facts:

1. Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, beneficial for heart health
2. Rich in potassium, helps in lowering blood pressure
3. Rich in manganese, zinc, vitamin C & selenium, strengthen the immune system

Tuna tips:

1. Buy Tuna canned in water instead of oil and drain them and rinse them in clean water to reduce the sodium content.
2. Remember that Fresh Tuna is lower in fat and sodium than canned Tuna however it has higher Mercury levels
3. Limit your Tuna intake to once to twice per week due to Mercury levels. Extra precautions should be taken for pregnant women, women planning pregnancy & breastfeeding mothers and infants.
